JCoR Global Community Hour –
We gather in reverence and solidarity to mark the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples. This is not merely a date on the calendar; it is a sacred moment to pause, to listen, and to honor the ancient wisdom, resilience, and spiritual richness of Indigenous communities across our Earth.
Indigenous Peoples, an estimated 476 million souls across more than 90 countries, embody deep-rooted ways of knowing and being that remain deeply connected to the rhythms of the land, the voice of the waters, the breath of the winds, and the sacredness of all life. Though they make up less than 6% of the global population, they speak the majority of the world’s languages and carry within them more than 5,000 distinct cultures…each a gift, a story, and a prayer for the healing of our shared world.
They are the caretakers of ancestral wisdom, and through their practices, traditions, and connection to Spirit and Earth, they offer a vision of harmony, balance, and kinship that our fractured world desperately needs. Yet, these communities continue to face grave injustices – displacement from their lands, denial of rights, and systemic marginalization. Their voices have too often been silenced, their sacred lands exploited, and their cultures threatened.
And still they endure. Still, they rise. Still, they sing the songs of their ancestors and plant the seeds of renewal.
As we gather today, let this be a time of deep listening, of humble reflection, and of spiritual awakening. May we open our hearts to the truth, beauty, and pain shared by Indigenous Peoples. May we commit ourselves anew to protecting their rights, honoring their heritage, and learning from their sacred relationship with the Earth and all living beings.
Let this day be a call – not only to remembrance – but to action, to justice, and to reverence.
We give thanks for the gift of Indigenous Peoples around the world. May their wisdom guide us. May their struggles awaken us. May their spirits bless us.
